Further proof why 8 days will forever be my favourite magazine:

On their list of annoying things featured this week:

12. Celeb Blogger Perez Hilton

Oh yes THANK YOU. Really, why is somebody that untalented and ugly even famous? He spends half his time slagging off celebrities and spreading vicious (and may i add, false) rumours, and the other half kissing Lady Gaga's ass. (that's enough reason to hate him in my opinion)

You will not believe how much I laughed the day will.i.am sucker-punched him in the face (after he called will.i.am a fag. No I don't know what was going through his tiny mind when he used that homophobic slur especially when he himself is gay. I do not try to comprehend stupidity)

Now 8 days, if only you would add a certain local blogger to your list, I will give you my firstborn.

20. Nosey relatives who bug you about when you're getting attached/married/pregnant/a better job - do we ask when you're hitting menopause?

ON SNAP! Thank god none of my relatives do things like that to me, so this is for the rest of you who have unfortunate relatives like these.

27. Decisive friends who pretend to be indecisive - They ask you to choose the restaurant, then reject all your suggestions

HAHAHA. Now who does this remind me of..

30. Cantonese dramas dubbed in Mandarin - The reason why the brilliant Heart of Greed is a dud on Channel 8

YES. I know you're trying to promote speaking proper Mandarin, but honestly? Dubbing just takes away the essence of the whole show. Some jokes just don't translate and it's so jarring to hear the chinese translation and know it means entirely something else. At least give the option of dual-language. I'm more than okay with the people doing the dubbing for HK shows (because have you heard the local dubbers? HORRORS OF HORROR) but nothing beats the original voices.

34. Salesgirls who shadow you. Then rearrange the stuff you touched the moment you walk away

I really don't need to explain why this is so freaking annoying.

37. People who hold up queues at the train turnstile cos they insist the scanner can detect the ez links in the abyss of their giant bags

This always happens to me and when it does, I roll my eyes. There was once the woman in front turned around and saw me rolling my eyes. Normally I would be embarrassed, but it was a tiong so I rolled my eyes more.

And the cherry on top of the icing? They slammed Gurmit Singh's joke of a hosting job on Singapore Idol last week. How awesome is this?? First of all, Dick Lee basically bit the heads off of all the contestants I couldn't stand (and telling one guy who was playing the guitar that this was a singing competition, not a music competition. MR LEE I BOW DOWN TO YOUR WISE WORDS AND LAMENT WHY YOU COULDN'T HAVE BEEN ON AMERICAN IDOL) and now 8 days calls Gurmit out for his lameass jokes and nonsensical rambling??

Wow if this kind of epicness continues, I am so going to continue watching the show.

And yes I realise I've totally given up on blogging about Europe. I just can't be bothered, which is unfortunate because I'm missing out on my favourite places Paris and London. AH WELL. PICTURES.

BERN

boring

LAUSANNE

pretty but boring

GENEVA

expensive, pretty and boring.

(Yeah not really fans of these places)

PARIS

One of my favourite places in the world. Paris is honestly one of the only few cities that can live up to its hype. It's gorgeous, romantic, everything they say in the books, and more. And the city was just so darn PRETTY.

And the fantastic weather was just a bonus. (Although it did get a little too cold on the third day and we were all getting grumpy from freezing too much) Oh and Parisian guys are hot. No competition.

LONDON

Now if there's one place I could love more than Paris, it was London. The place redefines the word "charming". I guess it suits me perfectly because it straddles between the old-world English charm and modernized chic well. And the shopping? O M G. I spent the bulk of my savings in London, and went home with tons of clothes, books and makeup. I WANT TO MOVE TO LONDON DAMNIT.

OH YEAH. Guys with British accents? DO WANT. After almost 3 weeks in countries where I have no idea what the hell people were saying, I practically swooned when I first heard those damn lovely English accents.

dinner with eric and friends

EDINBURGH

Compared to Paris and London, Edinburgh definitely had a slower pace of life. It also had more of the European old world charm - the buildings in the city were mainly constructed out of stone and brick. VERY PRETTY. I don't know why but the place just resounded with me. I loved it (Also maybe because I have a thing for Scottish accents and I'm biased)

One thing's for sure though, Edinburgh has got some of the most gorgeous scenery - the sky's the shade of the most brilliant blue you could possibly imagine. It's AMAZING.

Okay that's all. And the whole blogging about Europe thing only took.. 4 months!

last weekend was one of those awesome ones where i spent no time at all for myself, but instead with all my looovely friends. sometimes i do need a dose of that :)

sat morning i had to work early in the morning for an event but hey it was pretty slack so that's fine. i went home and concussed after that and then it was william's birthday party @ downtown east

alright to be honest we didn't do much because the three of us were too lazy to make small talk with other people and there was no room in the chalet for us so we ended up standing around and talking for hours straight

sunday afternoon bel, seah, shuxian and i finally met up after our last outing in december! this of course called for expensive hightea at Goodwood Park hotel. 39 bucks per person y'all, and while it was nice, i thought it definitely wasn't worth that amount. well maybe 'cos i'm still poor. a working adult yes, but still a poor working adult.

with us, lots of camwhoring would definitely happen!

and after that was xin mei's birthday dinner @ marina!

i am actually now at jiayin's house for our stayover with the girls + eric. they're watching some horror flick while im typing here because 1. i've watched the show before and 2. it still scares the shit outta me. haha.

3rd-5th May: Munich

Day 3:

so we left frankfurt early in the morning to catch our train to munich. alright i'll admit it, i didn't think much of munich previously because when i think of munich, i think of concentration camps and that depresses the hell outta me. but boy was i wrong. anyway i'm getting ahead of myself.

travelling by train has gotta be my favourite mode of transport, even above planes (and i LOVE taking planes. don't ask why. there's just something so amazing about a plane taking off and landing. DONT KNOW WHY) i can be completely sleepy but once i get on a train, it's like bam! two cups of coffee. there's just sooooo much to see en route!

and as was the journey from frankfurt to munich. it was estimated that we would reach munich in 4 hours, so we all had grand plans to sleep our way through. not me though. the scenery pretty much captivated me (as did the shows on my ipod. surprise surprise i actually watch other stuff on my ipod) unfortunately, the 4hour journey became 6 (omg i could have taken a plane to japan in that time) because we were stuck at a station for 2 hours after some guy jumped onto the tracks and got killed. scary shit, i know. luckily we saw none of that.

well what that meant was that when we reached munich we were all tired and cranky from the long ride, but the hotel cheered us up immensely.

it was one of those artsy quirky places that made you go "huh?" at first sight, but made you fall in love with it later on. now, you have to understand that in europe, most of its hotels have no aircon or wireless AND they usually have tv channels broadcasting only in their national language (try watching American Dad in french), so this hotel scored triple points because they had aircon, WIRELESS AND CABLE! THANK GOD FOR CNN! trust me, when you walk around the entire day realising that you don't understand what the hell everyone is saying around you, you will be endlessly grateful for CNN. (QUEST MEANS BUSINESS. BWAHAHA)

after chucking our stuff aside, we headed out to this very quaint, very authentic german beer garden and had traditional bavarian fare for lunch, you know, beer and pork knuckles and all. the pork knuckles weren't fabulous though, but the ambience made up for it

after the lunch it was a whole lot of wandering around, and we eventually ended up at marienplatz, the town centre, which just oozes old-world charm

just look at the pics lah okay? i'm lazy to elaborate. haha.

it was a warm day out :(

and then that was the end of the day. our days in europe are always short because there's pretty much nothing to do after 6!

Day 4:

woke up bright and early, only to realise that it wasn't the least bit bright outside. in fact, it was dark and rainy and a quick weather check confirmed that it would be raining pretty much the entire day and it was going to be cooooooooold. awesome, on the day that we were going up to the castle (i can't remember how to spell the name and i can't be arsed to check) nevertheless, i was looking forward to the cold after the crappy hot weather the last couple of days!

it was really cold even as we walked to the train station where we were to meet our tour guide and i also went a little crazy excited when i realised that the weather was actually cold enough for us to see our breaths when we were talking. haha!

anywho.

skipping all the details, we took a total of about 3hours before reaching the base of the mountain (well, hill, technically), taking 2 trains, and 2 buses, passing by Fussen, this incredibly sweet town (and that's pretty much how much i know to describe it. it's just so.. pretty)

lunch at the base of the hill. your typical german fare of sausages + fries. sinful as hell but ohsogood.

we began our ascent at the Swan Lake (yes, apparently, THE swan lake. i hope i remembered correctly)
oh yeah this is our tour guide whom yuexin thinks looks like orlando bloom (i know, don't ask me. hahaha) hence by the end of the day he was christened orlando foo. bwahaha.

some other castle near the lake.
and then we began our journey up.

alright let's put things into perspective:

it was friggin' 5 degrees out there, and getting progressively colder as we climbed further up
it was raining. RAINING. NOT DRIZZLING. and i had to find out only then that my HK boots weren't waterproof. shit.
i hadn't had any proper exercise in like.. years. the last time i went to the gym was in 2007. savvy?

and so even though it was "merely" a 1.6km hike up, i nearly died halfway.

luckily we reached the castle before i croaked.

i was cold and wet and very very annoyed with my boots and aching legs but the sight of the castle did cheer me up. until i realised we were not done with our hiking, and instead were walking another 10 mins to this bridge. by then i was all ready to throw a bitch fit. luckily i didn't :P

because the view was.. spectacular.

thoroughly appeased, we hiked back to the castle and took a short tour around it. no pictures because they didn't allow it. but alright, the interiors of european castles look pretty much the same (many overcompensating kings, you see) so just stay tuned for pictures from paris/london/scotland

a cup of hot chocolate at the cafe in the castle, we were on our way back down

the long and winding road

the journey back to central munich was completely torturous because we were still wet, and the weather did not let up despite the rain stopping. it was now instead, windy. thanks. it was the kind cold that made you just want to sit there and not move, ever.

and that was the end of the day. as short as the descriptions have been, the entire journey to and fro took almost 8 hours (5 of which spent travelling) so it wasn't really surprising that all of us just concussed that night.

Day 5:

okay the photos for this day are all going to be squished into one collage (as much as possible) because really, i dont want to relive this day. there seriously can't be any where more depressing than concentration camps on this earth

perhaps the only bright spot in the day was our dinner at this famous german pub/restaurant. hey it may be in the middle of May but to these germans it seems like Oktoberfest every day!

turns out i really like beer with my food. there's just an incredible freshness about it! maybe it's just german beer.

and that's the end of the updates for munich. i know, i got seriously bored after day 4. to be continued when i feel like it. hehehee
