Day 3:
so we left frankfurt early in the morning to catch our train to munich. alright i'll admit it, i didn't think much of munich previously because when i think of munich, i think of concentration camps and that depresses the hell outta me. but boy was i wrong. anyway i'm getting ahead of myself.
travelling by train has gotta be my favourite mode of transport, even above planes (and i LOVE taking planes. don't ask why. there's just something so amazing about a plane taking off and landing. DONT KNOW WHY) i can be completely sleepy but once i get on a train, it's like bam! two cups of coffee. there's just sooooo much to see en route!and as was the journey from frankfurt to munich. it was estimated that we would reach munich in 4 hours, so we all had grand plans to sleep our way through. not me though. the scenery pretty much captivated me (as did the shows on my ipod. surprise surprise i actually watch other stuff on my ipod) unfortunately, the 4hour journey became 6 (omg i could have taken a plane to japan in that time) because we were stuck at a station for 2 hours after some guy jumped onto the tracks and got killed. scary shit, i know. luckily we saw none of that.
well what that meant was that when we reached munich we were all tired and cranky from the long ride, but the hotel cheered us up immensely.
after chucking our stuff aside, we headed out to this very quaint, very authentic german beer garden and had traditional bavarian fare for lunch, you know, beer and pork knuckles and all. the pork knuckles weren't fabulous though, but the ambience made up for it
after the lunch it was a whole lot of wandering around, and we eventually ended up at marienplatz, the town centre, which just oozes old-world charmjust look at the pics lah okay? i'm lazy to elaborate. haha.

it was a warm day out :(and then that was the end of the day. our days in europe are always short because there's pretty much nothing to do after 6!
Day 4:
woke up bright and early, only to realise that it wasn't the least bit bright outside. in fact, it was dark and rainy and a quick weather check confirmed that it would be raining pretty much the entire day and it was going to be cooooooooold. awesome, on the day that we were going up to the castle (i can't remember how to spell the name and i can't be arsed to check) nevertheless, i was looking forward to the cold after the crappy hot weather the last couple of days!
it was really cold even as we walked to the train station where we were to meet our tour guide and i also went a little crazy excited when i realised that the weather was actually cold enough for us to see our breaths when we were talking. haha!
anywho.
skipping all the details, we took a total of about 3hours before reaching the base of the mountain (well, hill, technically), taking 2 trains, and 2 buses, passing by Fussen, this incredibly sweet town (and that's pretty much how much i know to describe it. it's just so.. pretty)

we began our ascent at the Swan Lake (yes, apparently, THE swan lake. i hope i remembered correctly)
oh yeah this is our tour guide whom yuexin thinks looks like orlando bloom (i know, don't ask me. hahaha) hence by the end of the day he was christened orlando foo. bwahaha.and then we began our journey up.
alright let's put things into perspective:
it was friggin' 5 degrees out there, and getting progressively colder as we climbed further up
it was raining. RAINING. NOT DRIZZLING. and i had to find out only then that my HK boots weren't waterproof. shit.
i hadn't had any proper exercise in like.. years. the last time i went to the gym was in 2007. savvy?
and so even though it was "merely" a 1.6km hike up, i nearly died halfway.
luckily we reached the castle before i croaked.
because the view was.. spectacular.
thoroughly appeased, we hiked back to the castle and took a short tour around it. no pictures because they didn't allow it. but alright, the interiors of european castles look pretty much the same (many overcompensating kings, you see) so just stay tuned for pictures from paris/london/scotland
the journey back to central munich was completely torturous because we were still wet, and the weather did not let up despite the rain stopping. it was now instead, windy. thanks. it was the kind cold that made you just want to sit there and not move, ever.
and that was the end of the day. as short as the descriptions have been, the entire journey to and fro took almost 8 hours (5 of which spent travelling) so it wasn't really surprising that all of us just concussed that night.
Day 5:
okay the photos for this day are all going to be squished into one collage (as much as possible) because really, i dont want to relive this day. there seriously can't be any where more depressing than concentration camps on this earth
perhaps the only bright spot in the day was our dinner at this famous german pub/restaurant. hey it may be in the middle of May but to these germans it seems like Oktoberfest every day!

turns out i really like beer with my food. there's just an incredible freshness about it! maybe it's just german beer.
and that's the end of the updates for munich. i know, i got seriously bored after day 4. to be continued when i feel like it. hehehee
