this backtracks to last friday:
it's just my first week here and i'm doing OT right now.
ah well, i don't exactly have anybody to blame but myself, and anywho it's actually kinda
peaceful to have the entire place to yourself, because i can surf net much more openly and blast my music.
i'm actually done with my work but since i'm meeting the girls later for supper i thought i might as well stayed here and enjoy the aircon and blog.
yes it's about time i started blogging about europe before i forget everything/get too lazy.
May 1st: Europe Day 1 and 2 - Singapore-Frankfurt
May 1st: Europe Day 1 and 2 - Singapore-Frankfurt
i exited the plane scowling inwardly because of the long flight, and the customs officers just made things a whole lot worse with their endless questioning about our intentions for visiting germany, how long we would be staying, where would we be going afterwards. in fact i was so pissed off i was all ready to tell him that i am not an effing PRC and hence have zero interest in being an illegal immigrant in germany.
waiting for our trainwell eventually we made it to our hotel, the excelsior, in one piece, exhausted and sweaty from all the luggage dragging. thank goodness that our hotel was right across the main train station.
sleep was abit of a laugh that night, because it turns out all of us were jet-lagged beyond belief without us noticing at all, until we all woke up at 3am (9am singapore time) feeling like we've slept for 10 hours even though we went to bed barely 3hours before that. a whole lot of tossing and turning later, i gave up at around 7am and went to shower.
and then it was day 2 of frankfurt!
our awesome free hotel breakfast which made me very happy
after a long leisurely breakfast we decided to stroll around the train station and the nearby streets
our first sightseeing attraction was the Main Tower

i'm sorry but it was still a very boring tower, nice views and all. and the weather was starting to get on my nerves (it was about 20 degrees out.)lunch was at a marche-style italian restaurant and it was pretty nice

then it was off to the Orchard Rd of Frankfurt. extremely crowded streets and once again, nothing to see because it was just shopping centres after shopping centres. and would you believe it, it was a friggin' 29 degrees. if i wanted 29 degrees i would have stayed home
we wandered around somemore and found this church to explore. it was unfortunately, unimpressive. (yes up til this point of time i've not been impressed in the slightest by frankfurt)

it wasn't until we started to make our way back to the hotel then we started to see some really pretty sights

a long scenic walk back to our hotel. i think we walked for more than 1/2h but even Ol' Lazy One (me) didn't feel the slightest bit tired.

another italian dinner and it was back to our hotel. conclusion at the end of day 2? i didn't like frankfurt. maybe we were there at the wrong time (weekend), or maybe we just didn't do the right stuff. but the city was way too commercialized without retaining any of the european charm that all the other european cities (like london and paris) have.
but no matter, because up next was Munich!
to be continued (really soon)
