HONG KONG DAY 2 - 3rd Jan

got this lovelier picture of us at the Avenue of Stars from jiayin!

oh yes, about why it wasn't a good first night.

well for starters, it was friggin' cold, it felt like i was sleeping on a flat piece of rock, and the pillow might as well have been a piece of cloth. i was waking up every two hours, once at 430 and the next at 630, and then, something happened.

at around 635, i could hear the distant sound of a hotel room handle being shaken quite vigorously, you know, either like somebody checking whether the room was securely locked, or somebody was trying to get into our room!
it sounded near, but i could not confirm whether it was actually that near or it came from the next room. well whatever it was, it was scary as hell because the shaking went on for at least another 30 seconds (way too long for anyone trying to check their lock) and then it finally ended with the fire exit next to our room being banged open. YAR. I HATE BEING LOCATED NEAR STAIRCASES. TOO MANY HORROR MOVIES :(

well for the next hour which was the time we were due to wake up, i was unable to fall back to sleep -.- so the entire night i had a grand total of about 3.5 hours of sleep.

anyWHO, the 6.30-horror-story is to be continued. in the meantime, let's get on with the day in pictures!

the city in the morning. comparatively peaceful

we wanted a taste of an authentic Hong Kong breakfast.

apparently this is what HongKong-ers eat for breakfast everyday! instant noodles, the whole Western breakfast deal and a cup of milk tea to wash it all down! all for just S$4!! it totally makes you wonder how most of them stay so skinny

anyway the plan for the day was to start off with Stanley Market at the southern part of the HK island. (i didnt know this. i had to look it up at wikipedia. heh heh) so first of all we had to take the MTR (i like it better than our MRT! even though some of their stations have no escalators and you sometimes really have to climb until you die)

we got off here. does anyone have any idea whether our Admiralty is named the same in chinese?

on the bus to the market, which was located in the hilly areas.

that market was abit of a disappointment actually. the things were expensive and most of them weren't of our interest anyway. after an hour or so we hopped back on the bus back to Admiralty.

looking happy on the bus ride back. unfortunately 10 mins into the ride i started to get nauseous (those damn winding mountain roads!!) and it sure didn't help that the driver was driving like a maniac (poor zhi was frightened that he would actually drive the entire bus into the sea. haha. sure felt like it lar!)

and yeah, i kinda forgot that i had the exact same problem about 10 years ago when i was on the bus coming down from Cameron Highlands, so you can guess what happened next :( heng yuexin has plastic bags with her man.

2nd part of day's activities: to walk to the tram station to take the tram up to The Peak

zhi's specialty: taking photos as we walk. haha

the reason why hong kong-ers stay slim despite their crazy food: look at those damn steep roads!! and these steep roads are EVERYWHERE (or at the Admiralty area, at least)

the tram up The Peak

it was a pretty thrilling ride, because the tram was inclined at almost 45 degrees and it ZOOMED up the hill! and yes the inclination is true to the pic (cute angmoh not intended)

the view was magnificant

actually there wasn't much we could do except stand around and gape at the view, so we cam

whored instead :)

it was glaringly bright, but still cold :) I LOVE IT

after descending from The Peak (another thrilling ride because this time, we were going down backwards at the same inclination at the same speed. hahaha), we took the open top bus and then the MTR to Causeway Bay (actually, did we??? hahahah. I CANNOT REMEMBER ALREADY OMG SAVE ME AND MY STM!!)

anyway, the ride was breezy and fun. heh heh

late lunch at a posh-looking cafe at Island Beverley. i love the cafe not only because of the good food but because the moment we sat down the plasma tvs started showing an interview with bosco. HAHAHA.

once again, proof that food prices in HK are just ridiculous. ridiculously good for us of course. this sirloin steak + rice, together with soup and drink cost only S$8. and it was GOOD. unlike that in singapore, which would probably have cost you $25 at some substandard place like cartel.

after dinner, it was a spot of shopping at Island Beverley where i picked up some lovely earrings and Burt's Bees products (recall AB112!) and then more shopping at the streets, and soon after, we headed over to Times Square. why? hahaha. BEHOLD FARENHEIT.

okay lar. just the crowds of crazy fans. they were scheduled to reach at 8pm, but knowing them stars, they probably wouldn't show up on time, so we decided not to forsake our shopping at Mong Kok for them. (no loss to me lar, i have no strong liking for them, although i do think that Wang Dong Cheng is super cute. and i really admire jyn and yx lar. if this happened to be a raymond/bosco meet the fans session i would have waited there, damn the cold and sore feet and everything else!)

last picture of the night, because we didnt dare to bring our cameras to MongKok, having heard rumours of the rampant pickpocketing over there. in fact the only things we brought were money and our Octopus card, not even our wallets!

the entire night was spent at the Ladies Market at MongKok. and the things there were pretty great, but once again, not exactly cheap. bargaining was a must where you start by slashing the prices by half. and no, i cant bargain to save my life, i start feeling bad when i slash the prices so low so i ended up sponging off the other three pro-bargainers. hhahaha.

the long and exhausting day finally ended with lovely mango pudding and glutinous durian balls (HK has the most awesome desserts!)

to be continued!
