it was dhs tradition to celebrate the mid-autumn's festival on one night, and everybody, whether you liked it or not, had to turn up for the celebrations
(which mainly involved watching teachers entertaining themselves on the karaoke sets, playing silly treasure games in the dark where sometimes there would be spooky sightings and weird happenings, but then that's another story altogether)
being sec2s, we have already developed a semi-rebellious streak (but not very smart also la. the sec3s wouldnt even have bothered turning up for the celebrations. got parents' letter, scared what!)
for that very year, 2001, we decided that we're NOT going to stay for the celebrations and be bored to tears. YES. we're going to sneak out of school (heavily guarded by prefects) and gloat happily at all the other suckers still stuck in school!
so while all the students were in the hall watching some half-hearted concert, we were already planning our Great Escape in the foyer.
climb the walls? nah. impossible. the walls were not as low as vj's. and most of us are girls la.
call taxi in? got about 10 of us. that would be way to expensive.
just when we were about to be pissed about the lack of ideas we have (and time was ticking by, mind you!), somebody came up with the brilliant idea of sneaking out through the hostel. (which was then newly built)
so me, ah fai and julyn (i think! i cant remember!) were sent to test the situation. (oh we were so cute)
the plan was to bank on the fact that the security guard was new and probably had no idea about the regulations about that night, and walk out nonchalantly. (i know, not much of a plan too. we were sec2s!)
well we tried indeed. the good news was that, the guard indeed didn't know about the regulations, and ah fai really managed to walk out suavely (HAHAHA). unfortunately, when one whole big group of us wanted to walk out, any moron would know that there was something fishy going on, and he shut the gate on us.
BASTARD! :(
in the end, the only advantage we had over the other people who dutifully attended the concert was that we were at the gates and could be the first ones to leave the school when we were released :(
but our moods weren't dampened, and we decided to head over to airport for some dinner. (how on earth we came to that decision, i cannot remember. we were cool sec 2s!)
while we were having food at sakae and laughing our great escapade, some brilliant soul suggested making this a tradition.
and therefore you have it: come mid-autumn festival every year, we would attempt to sneak out of dhs and chiong to the sakae at the airport for dinner.
well, the sneaking out part never happened again (because in sec3 poor people like me had to stay in school for CO responsibilities! and sec4s weren't required to attend the celebrations)
but (save for last year where everybody only had "MUGGING" on their minds) we remained true to the dinner part! :)
yes, we're pretty amazing.
of course, the group only consisted of the bigger cliques in class, and over the years, we lost a few who never bothered to turn up again.
but yesterday, the group that showed, was the group that you would always see at all 2j gatherings and chalets

jia and i. we can be VERY bitchy when given the mood. HAHA
